Type approval

As an independent bodybuilder, Transport Enterprises is committed to becoming one of the country’s forerunners when it comes to approval status. The company has been approved on 04 CentreTri Axle Trailers since shortly following the implementation of the legislation, and has recently applied for and achieved an extension to cover tandem drawbar applications. In order to obtain this approval Transport Enterprises has forged a strong working relationship with the “VCA” (Vehicle Certification Agency) and all chassis manufacturers including Renault, Mercedes and Volvo.

What is a type appoval and who does it affect ?

Since the implication on the Type Approval Regulations Transport Enterprises has developed and continues to maintain a catalogue of in-house approvals ranging through all major OEM’s including DAF, Mercedes, Scania and Renault under the National Small Series Type Approval Scheme, “NSSTA”, Both N2 and N3 categories on two three and four axle configurations are covered in house along with O2, O3 and Centre Axle Trailers. In order to achieve this Transport Enterprises has forged a strong working relationship with the UK’s certification agency the “VCA”.

In addition to its range of extensive in-house approvals Transport Enterprises utilises its membership of the “VBTA” to capture and approve vehicle types that not currently under its own umbrella.

What is Type Approval and Who does it affect?

The National Small Series Type Approval scheme “NSSTA” is a common process for approving new goods, passenger vehicles and trailers. Once an initial ‘type’ of vehicle is examined and the production arrangements are assessed as meeting Conformity of Production requirements, more vehicles of this type can be manufactured and sold without the need for further inspections and testing.

The aim of vehicle type approval is to make sure that new goods and passenger vehicles are safer and have a lower impact on the environment, without there being the need to inspect and test every single one.

It has affected affect all businesses involved in the manufacture, conversion, build, import or sale of new goods and passenger vehicles and will include ancillary equipment suppliers such as those who build cranes or tail lifts.

All new vehicles have to be built to an approved standard before they can be sold or used on the road in any EU member state or Country.

The Type approval legislation was introduced on 29th October 2014. Which meant “NO APPROVAL NO SALE”

Our Trailer manufacture and Approval.

Running on BPW axles and incorporating a WABCO braking system, the trailer approvals include Tandem and Tri-axle Centre Axle Trailers applications and cover gross weights from 10-24 tonne.
